- Gap
- Gap
2 clips on the timeline
What the words mean
- Timeline: shows the parts of your video in order.
- Trim: cut away a part of a clip you do not want.
- Split: make one clip into two.
- Merge: join two clips together.
Cutting out a mistake in the middle
- Split the clip just before the mistake.
- Split it again just after the mistake.
- Delete the part with the mistake.
- Merge the two good parts, so that no gap is left.
For teachers
This tool goes with Unit 1, Lessons 6 and 10 of the Year 4 Inspire Computing student book. It teaches the idea of editing and does not replace practice in your green screen application, whose buttons will look different.
- Before the screen: write the scenes of a video on a strip of paper. Pupils cut out the mistake with scissors and tape the good parts together.
- A note on words: the book says cropping means cutting something out. Most software uses crop for cutting the edges off a picture, and trim for cutting a clip, so this tool uses trim.
- Let pupils press Play before they merge. A blank screen where the gap is shows why merging matters.
- Exit question: what is the difference between trimming a clip and merging two clips?
- No video is used, and nothing is saved or sent anywhere.
